We had a wonderful week celebrating Shelby and Trent!! We drove down to Utah with Stef and Baby Zeke and a whole car full of tuxedos, and wedding paraphernalia. (I had to look that spelling up). Zeke stayed occupied with bottles full of pumped milk and a sound machine playing ocean/nature sounds. When that didn't work he practiced using his little voice to express his feelings. He also pooped.
When we arrive in Utah to begin the festivities, we descended on our first home... the basement suite at Grandma's house. Our old room is now home to Miss Hailey Mae and her anatomy books. The basement was also hosting Shelby's belongings pre wedding and her goldfish. Grandma rather patiently turned a blind eye to our clutter and met her great grandson for the first time. She also coordinated an excursion to a play at Hale Theater that the family enjoyed. We were so happy to also be reunited with our college kid Brooke! She looked fabulous and has survived the first few weeks of adjusting to college and the bus system.
Wednesday of wedding week was the family dinner hosted by Trent's family. They put on a wonderful selection of breakfast foods. There were crepes, quiches, jams, spreads and breads. It was very yummy and we all feasted on the spread. All of my family was at the dinner, including all my brothers and my parents. That was really fun! At the dinner the dads did a good job of highlighting the couple and wishing them well. Afterwards we took care of getting the men their tuxedos and did some visiting.
Thursday morning at 10am was the wedding at the temple. We had a wonderful group of family supporting the couple and outside of the temple we took many pictures. Baby Zeke looked extra snazzy in his blue tuxedo. He messed his pants during the photos, leaving Mimi a little souvenir down her dress. This easily cleaned up with a baby wipe. Stefani was our photographer and she gave the couple a lot of time after the family shots doing some lovely couple photos in various spots around the whole temple. I acted as assistant and veil positioner. I also held flowers and helped with wardrobe. After the photo shoot we drove back to grandma's for tacos and a brief break.
At 3pm I arrived at our venue to decorate. The venue provided almost everything so I just added a few things and then the we started the party at 6pm. We had a nice light dinner and cupcakes/cake. Several relatives and friends showed up and we had a very nice turn out considering we weren't at home. There was dancing and some ukelele playing/singing by Amanda . The nephews played with the led candles and some other little ones hid under the cake table. We blew bubbles to send the newlyweds out the door. The couple headed out to start their honeymoon and we cleaned up.
The rest of the week we were able to go to a football game and celebrate Brooke turning 19 with a big dinner. The week was over too fast and we had to load everything back up and trek home.
Obviously this post doesn't hit upon the big emotions that having another daughter married evoke. It doesn't fully capture the feeling you have when you have a big gathering of people that you love. It just scratches the surface.
Truthfully, life lately is very hard. It is tedious and frustrating and mentally draining. It is requiring a lot of extra effort. So enjoying a nice week watching Shelby be ecstatically happy... was perfect.
