Life is Grand

I have been thinking about the word Grand Parent. It is intentionally a big word. It references the fact that it is BETTER than being a parent. In Ireland people love to throw around the word Grand ... isn't that just grand they say? And really life as a grandparent is GRAND. If you look on the internet and read definitions about grandparents and references to grandparenting the consensus is really that since you aren't concerned about the day to day stuff (unless you are by chance raising said children) you can focus on the FUN. And I really think that that is one of the big prizes for surviving up into these less exciting decades... is that along with liver spots, wrinkles, saggy skin, gray hairs, chin hairs, colonoscopies and cholesterol numbers... you get to be some little persons Mimi or Bampa. And that is the best.

We enjoyed having our little buddy here last week. He snuggled in with me to watch "MEESY MOUSE" and requested his "CHOCOLATE MILK BA-BA". We went over to the park after checking out some Llamas and slid down the slide about 40 times. We laughed and played delighted in our little man. Oh such JOY! We also got to witness the blessing of our little Jenny. Jenny is filling out and her little cheeks are to die for. She has a cute little smile and may be getting a dimple? She looked like a princess in her blessing dress that Grandma Shirley made years ago for Amanda. She endured the long scratchy dress like a champ and let her family members bounce her, her daddy pronounce her blessing and her adoring family photograph her before getting held and loved by a bunch of relatives.

The only thing better than this is knowing that my parents are still healthy and alive and able to visit and enjoy these little munchkins. My mom and dad came to see us and then went to visit the little great grands. Again 2 superlative words to describe magical relationships. My dad juggled for Zeke and my mom made him laugh with her silly faces. They both held Jenny and she squealed at them.

It makes me think of my grandparents and great grandparents and Kris's dad and how someday... we will ALL be together.

Won't that be GRAND?
