Vacation highs and lows

We set out for our big trip on Saturday...loaded the boat with the luggage and when we arrived in Boise discovered the axel to the trailer had broken. This began our streak of bad luck that permeated the week of our vacation.

The positives about Boise were:

An amazing float down the Boise river on tubes and rafts with our family and Kris's best friend's family...followed by the Journey concert. The guitar solo of the national anthem and the last few songs especially "Don't stop believing" ....and also enjoying pizza and visiting at Kerry's house.

We dropped the boat at the repair shop where it languished for a few days..and headed off to McCall. Almost immediately upon arrival we lost our car's transmission. Kris and I fought ( which we almost never do) and I cried myself to sleep. The next morning we drove to Boise and bought a used Expedition found on Craigslist. The purchase, finding, money procuring and driving back took up the whole day and then we got almost back to McCall and the road was closed due to fires in the area. We arrived back at the condo at almost 11pm. Mom and dad had arrived and the kids had spent the day happily interacting with cousins and family.

The high highlight of our whole trip was Amanda's baptism. We arrived to a serene, placid calm Payette Lake Thursday morning. The family all made it to the site and gathered around. Amanda sang a beautiful solo while Brandon her cousin accompanied her on guitar. Shelby and Stefani both gave talks and Amanda's daddy baptized her. Grandpa Jim confirmed her and gave her a beautiful blessing. She looked so nice in her dress made by Grandma Shirley. It was absolutely perfect. Pretty much the only thing perfect about the week..but perfect nonetheless.

While at the reunion we saw lots of family and the kids reconnected with cousins. There were quite a few movie parties and Olympic sport viewing sessions at our condo. We exercised at the club and ate lots of yummy food.

I especially enjoyed seeing my parents and David. They came to enjoy a few days with us.

Kerry brought the boat up from Boise, (repaired) and the men took a short fishing expedition. I am so glad he was willing to do that for us.

Stefi was her usual happy self and tolerated her sisters stealing her clothes and hair stuff.

Aunt Sheryl organized a potluck, talent show that was fun and minute to win it games for the younger set..

After our week of fun..we returned home late Saturday night. Aunt Michelle and her family came through and we shared salad.. Their favorite meal...it was really fun to get to know Mason and Shauna better.

And now the summer is over....

We didn't practice piano much or read or keep our math facts up like we had planned..we traveled and swam and played..

And it went much too fast.
